My Long coastal village (currently separated into North My Long commune, South My Long commune and My Long town) is subordinate to Cau Ngang district, 30 kilometers Southeast of Tra Vinh town. It is also a well-known tourist address. Hang Duong (Willow row) lies along the coast of about 5 kilometers in South My Long commune.It is very cool with immense wind from the seashore and so appropriate with camping trips, picnics and outdoor activities and so on.
I/ MY LONG COASTAL VILLAGE INFORMATION
Ngheu Isle is a sandy isle newly emerging from the center of the Cung Hau sea,about 3 kilometers far from the seashore of South My Long. When the tides rise, the whole sandy isle sinks in the water sea. However, when the tides are on the close ebb,an area of hundreds of hectares of the sandy isle emerges under the sunlight and wind.The My Long people make use of this heavenlygifted sandy isle into an arca-raising ground with high productivity and large output.In spite of depending on the ups and downs of the tides,visitors find it interesting to come to Ngheu Isle in order to live in the nature of sea and heaven, then enjoy the boiled arca that they themselves have caught.
Ban Isle is a silt isle newly emerging in from the center of the Cung Hau sea, about 5 kilometers far from Ngheu Isle,and about 2 kilometers far from the seashore of North My Long.The whole isle with an area of over 200 hectares is a virgin cypress forest which is wild and sinks under the water surface when the tides rise up. On the canopies of the cypress trees which is green and cool all year round is the favorite habitat of numerous birds and wild animals. Under the roots of the cypress trees which sink in the water is the natural home of variety of aquatic animals, with high value serving the human life and helping the reproduction of the benefit resources of coastal aquatic animals. In the cypress forest, on high earth moulds, farmers with great love for labor and free life in the setting of fish under the water and birds in the sky,have been day and night using the capacity of their own hands to encroach on the sea and expanding the forest, then built their own houses and established their hamlets. Coming to Ban Isle means reaching the zone of typical ecological mangrove forest of Tra Vinh province, and visitors will have a chance to witness the process of reclaiming and establishing the homeland of the ancestors through the major daily activities of today’s pioneer residents on the land of the isle.
My Long is also an ancient coastal village with historical vestiges closely tied to the period “King Gia Long’s escaping from the country” such as Ben Ngu (Royal Wharf), Bai Bun (Muddy Beach) etc…as well as the traditional career of day hang khoi (catching fish and shrimp on sea) and the famous Whale festival.
My Long is a land full of traditions and used to be one of the sacred cradles of Tra Vinh province’s movement of proletarian revolution.
